What you should know about the breed

The Medium Poodle is one of the most intelligent dog breeds in the world. It learns quickly, is cheerful and playful, and bonds closely with its family.

It is sensitive and thrives best as part of everyday life. Poodles are rarely aggressive, but can be alert and will let you know when something is happening.

A Medium Poodle stands roughly 35–45 cm at the shoulder and typically weighs 9–15 kg.

The coat is curly and comes in several colours — including black, white, brown, apricot, red and silver.

The poodle sheds very little and is considered one of the most allergy-friendly breeds — but in return it needs regular coat care.

It must be brushed regularly to avoid matting and clipped by a groomer roughly every 6–8 weeks. Getting the puppy used to grooming from the start is important.

The poodle is energetic and quick to learn, and needs both exercise and mental stimulation every day.

It loves working together with its person and does very well in e.g. obedience, agility and rally. Daily walks and play keep it happy and balanced.

The Medium Poodle is generally a healthy and long-lived breed, often reaching 12–15 years.

As with all breeds there are some known hereditary conditions — including the eye disease PRA, patellar luxation (loose kneecaps) and hip dysplasia. That is why we health-test our breeding dogs and choose pairings with care.

A poodle suits families, active singles and first-time owners alike — and often allergy sufferers too.

It wants to be involved in everything and does not like being left alone for many hours. Remember too that regular grooming costs both time and money throughout the dog’s life.
